On the final day of this year’s Children’s Ministry Week Climax service, Sister Amanda Teye delivered an inspiring sermon titled “Unleashing the Potential of Children to Transform Their World”, drawing her key message from Matthew 18:1-4. She began her sermon by sharing a story of a young girl who initiated a backyard vegetable garden due to the scarcity of fresh produce in her community. This simple act grew into a community-wide project that benefitted everyone, illustrating the power and potential of even the smallest efforts of children to bring about significant change.
Sister Amanda emphasized that over the past five years, the church has been equipped to make an impact, which includes focusing on the empowerment of children. Referring to Acts 1:8, she reminded the congregation that Jesus promised His followers, including children, that they would receive power through the Holy Spirit. She further highlighted the biblical story of Samuel, a young boy who was called by God and empowered to accomplish great things. Sis. Amanda also referenced 1 Peter 2:9, Proverbs 22:6, and Jeremiah 29:11, which all reflect God’s intentional plans for every child.
Recognizing God-Given Talents Sister Amanda stressed that unleashing the potential of children begins with recognizing their unique God-given talents. Every child is endowed with special gifts and abilities, and it is the responsibility of parents, guardians, and the church to identify these talents early on and nurture them for a greater purpose. Referring to Proverbs 22:6, she reminded the congregation of the biblical mandate to train children in the way they should go, so that even as they grow older, they do not depart from it. This initial recognition, according to Sister Amanda, must be followed by creating environments conducive to the child’s growth, learning, and development.
Empowering Children for Transformation Sister Amanda highlighted that after recognizing their talents, children must be empowered to confidently act on them. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, as noted in Acts 1:8, children can bring about transformation in their communities, families, and schools, much like the biblical figure Samuel did. She encouraged the church to cultivate environments where children feel empowered and inspired to use their gifts. This, she explained, will create a ripple effect, fostering growth and transformation within the wider community. Nurturing the spiritual and personal development of children allows them to discover their identity in Christ and unleashes their potential to impact the world for God’s glory.
A Call to Action for the Church and Families As she concluded her sermon, Sister Amanda Teye challenged the congregation to embrace this message not only within the church but also in their homes, families, schools, and workplaces. She called on the members to be intentional about fostering environments where children are encouraged and supported in their development, recognizing their talents and empowering them to act. By doing so, children can become powerful agents of change, helping to advance God’s kingdom and bringing meaningful transformation to their environments.
