The People of God as Carriers and Conduits of Life – Pastor Benedict Eghan

Last Sunday, September 1st, 2024, Pastor Benedict Eghan, the Resident Minister of PIWC Tesano, delivered a powerful sermon centered on the theme “The People of God as Carriers and Conduits of Life.” He began by referencing a profound statement from the Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, Aps. Eric Nyamekye, which highlights the church’s mission: “The church is a community that lives for the Father and leads the Earth into life by bringing joy to their community.” This, Pastor Eghan emphasized, is the essence of the church’s purpose—to be a living testimony of God’s love, bringing life and joy to the world.

Drawing from Acts 8:4-8, Pastor Eghan illustrated how the early church, even under persecution, remained resolute in spreading the gospel. He pointed to Philip’s ministry, which brought miraculous healing and profound joy to the community. This example underscored a key message: wherever God’s life is manifested, it brings about renewal and joy in people’s hearts. He further referenced John 7:37-39, where Jesus speaks of the river of living water, symbolizing the abundant life and joy available to all who come to Christ.

Pastor Eghan reminded the congregation that this invitation to partake in God’s life is universal, as seen in Peter’s ministry to Cornelius. He emphasized that the flow of God’s living water is boundless, and true satisfaction is found only in Christ, echoing the sentiments of Psalm 63:1 and Psalm 42:1-2.

The sermon also touched on the fulfilment of Joel’s prophecy in Acts 2, which foretold the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. This outpouring empowers believers to be carriers of life, much like a pregnancy nourishes and transforms the mother. Pastor Eghan used Isaiah 58:11 to illustrate how the Lord satisfies our needs, likening believers to a well-watered garden that produces fruit and vibrancy, symbolizing a life filled with God’s presence and purpose.

He went on to explain that as conduits of life, believers are called to bring salvation, liberation, joy, and hope to those around them. Using examples from Daniel’s life (Daniel 2:46-47 and Daniel 4:34-38), he demonstrated how Daniel’s faith led even a pagan king like Nebuchadnezzar to recognize God’s greatness.

In conclusion, Pastor Eghan encouraged the congregation to actively intercede for others, to share the gospel, and to live lives marked by integrity and kingdom virtues. He prayed that through these actions, people would encounter God and experience His love, leading to personal and societal transformation.
