I Am a Child of God

During the Lord’s Supper service, the resident minister, Pastor Benedict Eghan, delivered a sermon emphasizing the centrality of Christ’s death and resurrection. Preaching from 1 Corinthians 15:3-4, he reminded the congregation that Christ’s sacrifice was of first importance. He likened this to how earthly children naturally inherit the DNA of their parents, stating that, in the same way, God’s children carry His nature. He encouraged the congregation to embrace this truth, reminding them that being children of God came with privileges, authority, and the assurance of His promises.

Moving on to Matthew 16:13-19, the pastor spoke about the authority given to believers. He explained that Christ had endowed His followers with power, symbolized by the keys of the Kingdom, enabling them to effect God’s will in their lives and in the lives of those around them. He stressed that this authority was not just theoretical but a spiritual reality, made possible through the Holy Spirit. According to him, whatever believers bound or loosed on Earth would be established in heaven. He encouraged them to walk in this divine authority, declaring victory over their circumstances and manifesting God’s power in their daily lives.

Referencing Matthew 15:23-28, Pastor Eghan spoke about accessing the Father’s provision, using the story of the Canaanite woman. He noted that even though she was not part of Israel, her faith moved Jesus to respond to her request. He pointed out that if mere crumbs from the Master’s table were enough to bless her, then surely God’s own children had access to far more. He reassured the congregation that when they cry out to God, He is always ready to respond. He listed some of the blessings available to them, including healing, increase, vindication, and holiness, and urged them to approach God with faith and a heart that truly yearns for Him.

In closing, Pastor Eghan reminded the congregation that God’s provision was abundant and available to all who believe. He encouraged them to partake in the Lord’s Supper with an understanding of their divine inheritance, knowing that through Christ, they had been given access to the fullness of God’s blessings. He concluded by stating that God is ready to make His people taste of His goodness (bread); they only need a yearning heart.
